Unveiling a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Turdy Character with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have found a variety of entertaining creations from small studios. Yet, one stands out for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game includes a protagonist that is truly a dung striving to travel to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
The gameplay is simple: press a single jump button. Across one hundred fifty levels, encounter tough enemies and visit a market to purchase customizations for your poop character.
Execute your jumps precisely, as a wrong move means starting over. Jump using air pockets to propel yourself upward, cross fragile surfaces, and activate buttons to open hidden paths. Gather UN-KOINS for buying more difficult levels in which things gets crazy.
Graphically, the experience boasts eye-catching environments and catchy background music. The retro visual style with moving geometric shapes evokes memories of fans of old favorites like Earthbound.
While it's tough to name similar titles where you control a dung character, gaming often included fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from character droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as plant food. Naturally, such content is present heavily in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already received notable recognition, including winning at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is ready now on Steam, with the full game set to arrive on computers in the fall.
