Chinese Ice Dancers Under Investigation Following Displaying Toy Missile during Event

The International Skating Union are conducting an investigation after two Chinese ice dancers were seen with what looked like a replica weapon at a grand prix figure skating event.

Broadcast footage captured the skaters sitting with a sizable prop in the form of a missile labeled “DF-61” as they awaited the judges' results at the “kiss and cry” zone on Saturday.

The DF-61 represents a recently introduced China-produced ground-launched long-range weapon designed for transporting atomic warheads, which was displayed during a national ceremony recently.

Officials is aware that an inappropriate plush item seems to have been among those thrown on to the rink by audience members after a routine during the competition,” the ISU stated in an emailed statement.

“The soft toy was then held by the athletes who had just performed. We regrets this occurrence and will investigate further.”

Ren and Xing finished eighth out of ten teams in the ice dance event, with the victory going to the American pair from the US.
